Roland TD12K – Messing Around

Roland TD12K – Messing Around

I’ve been playing the drums a lot more often lately. I’m rather put off by the ugly faces I pull (didn’t realise I did that o_O), but I won’t get better if I don’t practice. I recorded myself messing around, but I also recorded myself playing along to a swing song, which sounded awful. Clearly a long way to go.

You won’t hear anything other than hitting mesh heads, so it’s unfortunately not too interesting. Oh, and I’m not picking my nose and eating it, just scratching it. My boyfriend pointed out it looks that way.

You’ve got groove. I’m impressed. I didn’t realize that you were so talented on the drums. Nice one!

Ahh, fun times. I haven’t played my TD10 in aaaages, and your video made me realise how much I miss playing :)

Just an observation: your floor tom looks very close to your body, and it looks like you have to really contort your arm and stiffen your shoulder to hit it. Seems a little uncomfortable, with more playing from the shoulder than from the wrist. Is it? Or does it just look like that from the angle?

Would love to see some vids with recorded sound from the TD12. You play quite well. I also play open handed a fair bit for certain styles (but I ain’t a leftie like you :P ).

Cool video! I’ve always wanted to learn to play the drums but the size of a kit and the noise (neighbours) has always stopped me. How do you find an electronic kit and would you recommend one to someone starting out?

Also, if a drummer isn’t making weird faces, they’re doing it wrong ;)

    Brent, thank you!

Aleks, hah. What would a video of myself be without some animated faces?

Rhiannon, I don’t have this kit set up how I would ideally like it, but it’s pretty cramped with a fridge/freezer directly behind me that gets used on a daily basis. So, I had to pull everything really close together, including the hi-hat, which is practically on top of my snare. One day I’ll get a bigger house. One day.

Mike, I was very hesitant about getting an electronic kit, but at the end of the day my desire to practice outweighed all the cons. I have a wee Yamaha DTX available if you’re interested ;)

You need to put up a video with the sound from the TD12! Sounding pretty damn good though.

I’m so jealous, I really need to pull the finger out and get one.

Carlo, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen one another play! I can’t even imagine how amazing you must be now o_O I’ll be hooking my TD12K up to an amp at some point, but I can’t play too loudly because I live in a marina surrounded by OAPs :-/
