Price Comparison Sales To Date

Price Comparison Sales To Date

Yeah, so much for this being a weekly thing.

As of the end of May we have sold over 100 policies, which is a total commission of close to two and half grand. Not bad considering it’s over £2000 of business we otherwise wouldn’t have got. We are, however, still running at a loss. But, like I said before, this is okay and to be expected at this stage. We’re doing this for long term profit; renewals, referrals etc.

We’ve also been notified that as from the 1st of June, our position on the price comparison site has increased to a more visible spot. To begin with we bid for the lowest position just to test the water, and because it was safer from a financial perspective. Hopefully our improved visibility brings us in more business.

Sounds like you’re making good steady progress which is the main thing. My business just celebrated our first birthday and it’s certainly been a hard road but we’re getting there.

Some days it just doesn’t feel like the effort is worth it, but hopefully it is in the end. So we’re going to keep on trucking, and I’m sure you will too.

Hi Ben. Congrats on celebrating your businesses first birthday! That’s a good milestone. We’re 10+ years old, but under my management for 4 years, though the first couple were really just me getting my bearings. I know what you mean about some days not feeling worth the effort. I feel particularly discouraged when I’ve spent a week working my ass off, only to get our figures through next week and have them be disturbingly low. I definitely think it is all worth it though. Oh, and thanks – I wasn’t aware the comment form was broken in Safari 4. I’ll try my best to get around to fixing it soon.

The insurance broker I work for have only recently got on the comparison sites in the last year and we’re still having teething issues with getting decent positions and accurate prices coming through.

Most the time, it’s down to the third-party software we use for creating the quotes and its lack of flexibility.

At the same time, refining your rates and matrixes is a full-time job and we’ve ended up hiring someone devoted to checking prices on the comparison sites to ensure we’re competitive enough in the market.

Making two and half grand profit in your first month is impressive though. Well done on achieving that.

I'm interested to know what you think. Leave a comment
