About

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; writing an ‘about’ page for yourself is a stupidly hard task. But here goes…

The Punctuated Version

I’m 23. I live in a marina. I’m Scottish. I share a house with my dog, Indie. I wanted to be a musician. Instead I’m director of an insurance broker. It’s a family business. I work from home. I love the Xbox 360. I play drums. I take pictures. If I was 60 I’d probably fancy Steve Martin. I’m not 60 but I do fancy Harrison Ford. I like to learn. I don’t think I’m particularly great at anything, so instead I’ll often refer to myself as a ‘tinkerer of many things’.

Insurance?!

Yeah. Property insurance if we’re being specific! I studied music at college and always intended to go down that route. But, as I’m sure you’ll know, life throws all sorts of crazy things at you, meaning you rarely end up where you originally planned.

About a month after college finished my dad passed away (don’t smoke! And if you do, quit!), leaving behind a small but successful insurance brokers business. It’s mostly web based, though we do have a call centre in London dealing with, well, calls.

Knowing how much my dad’s business meant to him, I decided to keep things going and began working my dad’s job. To begin with I had no idea what I was doing, and the business inevitably took a hit. But I’ve always learned best by being thrown in at the deep end, and 4 years later I’m comfortable with my job, enjoy what I do, and learn something new every day.

I figured it would be interesting to write a blog about what I get up to, or anything remotely related to work – maybe even some personal stuff, too. It’s for myself, just so I can look back and remember all the progress I’ve made, but maybe there will be something of interest to others here as well. Who knows?

So, enough of the awkward ‘about me’ stuff. Bye!
